As a child I became fascinated with the Guinness World Records book. There were several copies in the school library at Tri-City Christian school and I proceeded to read them all. Most of our books were the old black and white paperback copies with mostly text and very few pictures. The bright, picture laden eye catchers released now are nothing like what I had to deal with. The lack of imagery meant that when you would read things like , "the worlds largest hammer is 30' tall" you had to imagine what (and why) a 30' hammer would look like that.
As a child I don't know that I encountered any of these but that was because we almost never traveled. As an adult I seek out these anomalies and while yes many are no more than tourist traps they still bring me a sense of wonder. Here are a few we've seen.
